Investigative interviews with vulnerable suspects

Assignment

The Dutch training program for interviewing vulnerable suspects (Verhoren van Kwetsbare Verdachten, VKV) is designed to help police detectives develop special skills for interviewing people who might be more sensitive or easily influenced. The training focuses on teaching experienced detectives how to properly engage with these individuals, as they often struggle with being suggestible or compliant. This can lead to problems like giving incorrect statements or even false confessions. However, studies show that when detectives tailor their interviews to better support vulnerable suspects, these individuals can still provide accurate information. Currently, this training program is only available in Dutch. Our goal is to translate the interview training and equip it with an evidence base (see previous internship projects) so that practitioners outside of the Netherlands can also benefit from the training.

Within this internship, you will be based within the PCRS department. Your internship has one main focus point:

Please note: As the training material is only available in Dutch a sufficient skill of the Dutch language is required.
