A research team of Public Administration of University of Twente and Radboud University drew lessons from the fireworks disasters of Culemborg and Enschede. The study was commissioned by Dutch parliament. On September 30 the Dutch cabinet finally released its formal position in response to the conclusions and recommendations of the fireworks disaster report. See: parliamentary documents.
The cabinet did not respond to the most urgent recommendation of the report: to reconsider the safe distances from storage locations. This caused an outcry last week in parliament, among the mayors of Dutch municipalities, the Dutch safety regions, and the Dutch interest organization of firefighters.
Media attention
There was a lot of media attention. Dutch television also covered the report and the cabinet response, including an interview with project leader Professor René Torenvlied.
