How to choose an appropriate test for answering your research question
With the help of a few questions you can already find out which test is most suitable to your research. Look at this page for these questions and try to answer them!
There are two decision trees that can help you find a suitable statistical test for answering your research question.Take a good look at your research question and hypothesis/-es. Use decision tree 1 for questions concerned with group differences. Decision tree 2 can offer guidance for questions concerned with correlation.
Decision tree 1 is helpful for finding an appropriate statistical test when examining differences between groups. For instance, if your research question is concerned with the question whether men score higher/lower on a certain dependent variable than women you can use decision tree 1.
Decision tree 2 is helpful for finding a suitable statistical test when your research interest lies in the relations between variables. For example, if your research question is concerned with (significant) effects of certain independent variables on a dependent variable you can use decision tree 2.
You can find more information about different tests and a third decision tree on this website.
