[Peer feedback is a common learning activity in education, fostering active learning and critical thinking among students. Through the process of giving and receiving feedback, students not only enhance their understanding of the subject matter but also develop essential skills such as communication, collaboration, and self-reflection. Research shows that feedback provision benefits the provider as much as, if not more than, the receiver, as it encourages deeper engagement with the content. Similarly, effective feedback uptake—where students use peer feedback to improve their work—plays a critical role in academic growth.
However, the effectiveness of peer feedback depends on several factors. Peer feedback literacy, or students' ability to provide, interpret, and apply feedback meaningfully, is a key determinant. Emerging technologies, such as Generative AI (GenAI), are also reshaping the peer feedback process. GenAI can assist students in identifying strengths and weaknesses, refining feedback tone, and offering suggestions for higher-level issues like argumentation and critical thinking. Despite its promise, the effective use of GenAI requires careful consideration to ensure it complements students' learning processes rather than replacing essential cognitive efforts.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on peer feedback by designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative educational interventions. Interns will analyze data, explore the interplay of feedback literacy and GenAI use, and contribute to scholarly publications. By joining this research initiative, you will help shape the future of education, creating smarter, more inclusive, and engaging learning environments.
METHOD
[For those passionate about educational innovation, this internship offers the opportunity to design, implement, and evaluate scholarly studies on peer feedback. Interns will engage in activities such as creating instructional interventions, analyzing data on feedback literacy and GenAI use, and contributing to impactful publications in the field. By exploring how peer feedback can empower students and transform education, interns will gain valuable skills and insights while making a meaningful contribution to advancing research and practice by answering following research questions:
- How does peer feedback literacy influence the quality of feedback provision and uptake in higher education?
- What are the effects of GenAI-supported peer feedback on students’ argumentation skills and critical thinking in essay writing?
- To what extent does feedback provision contribute to students’ cognitive engagement compared to feedback uptake?
- How can instructional interventions enhance peer feedback literacy and promote the effective use of GenAI tools?
- What challenges do students face in balancing the use of GenAI with traditional peer feedback practices, and how can these challenges be addressed?
This is your chance to be part of a research-driven initiative to improve educational practices through peer feedback. Let’s collaborate to create smarter, more engaging, and inclusive learning environments!
