“It's a cargo match!...” - Attaining waste-free and effective freight transport systems by seamlessly matching demand and supply with inclusive, smart, and green-oriented booking platforms
People are becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental impact and expansion of our transport systems. Unfortunately, our current way of managing and organizing transport isn't doing enough to make the most of the network capacity we already have.
The rise of digital platforms creates a real opportunity to better match supply and demand, making transport more efficient. However, there is a risk that one platform could become too powerful. In this project, we are developing the tools and guidelines needed to build an online 'matching platform.' This will allow users to easily combine and book services from various providers in one place, which we are currently testing specifically for intermodal transport—networks that link different types of transport like rail, road, and water.
