Our research focuses on the design, optimisation and decision support of complex systems in areas such as logistics, manufacturing, healthcare and services. We study how organisations and networks can make better decisions, improve operational performance, respond to uncertainty, and ensure sustainable and resilient operations. To this end, we develop and apply a broad range of quantitative methods, combining expertise from Operations Research, Machine Learning and Data Analytics.
On this page, we highlight our research projects, PhD projects and publications across the main application areas of IEMS:
- Logistics, transportation and mobility systems
- Healthcare operations and public services
- Resilient supply chains, manufacturing and maintenance systems
- Sustainable and circular systems
- Optimisation in finance
Value: High Tech Human Touch
We bridge IT, business, logistics theory, and applications. To make innovations happen within and across business networks, we:
- Apply proper planning and coordination algorithms.
- Design suitable business model engineering and business cases.
- Implement feasible organizational and technical architectures.
- Improve quality of service, quality of work (4Ps), human centered, sustainability, (examples from health, finance, logistics, internet services).
- Apply methods and techniques from operations research, combine IT and financial engineering to address these challenges.
