Capacity management in healthcare with a focus on obstetrics
PhD candidate: Marieke Rikkert
Our research aims to use various optimization techniques to balance fluctuating demand with constrained resources in healthcare, such as staffing and bed availability. A specific focus lies in maternity care, which we believe is underrepresented from an operations research perspective, highlighting a critical gap. Addressing this "under-researched" domain is essential, as the high degree of stochastic uncertainty in birth timing demands more sophisticated, dedicated optimization strategies to ensure clinical safety. Beyond the labor ward, we investigate the interdependencies with hospital-wide assets.
