PhD supervision

SUPERVISION

Supervision of a PhD student at CHEPS normally is by two senior CHEPS staff members. One of them is the official promotor, the other the supervisor. The student will meet on a regular basis with the promotor and/or supervisor. For a fulltime internal candidate, the frequency will be approximately one meeting per month. Besides, more frequent informal meetings are the norm for PhD students working at CHEPS.

THE PROMOTOR

The PhD process and outcome is overseen by the promotor, normally a professor at CHEPS. In certain cases, a second promotor (usually a professor external to CHEPS) may be involved. The promotor is appointed in relation to the research focus of the PhD and his/her availability.

THE SUPERVISOR

Next to the promotor, a senior researcher at CHEPS supervises the PhD work and is the assistant promotor of the PhD.
