Young UT'ers explore HoSt & Foseco/Vesuvius at Kennispark Twente

Recent graduates, young alumni and students had the opportunity to learn about applied cutting-edge technology, as they visited two leading high-tech companies deeply connected to the UT.

Organized by the UT Young Alumni Network, KIVI Students Twente, and Kennispark, the event brought together recent graduates, young alumni, and students to explore cutting-edge technology and innovation at two high-tech companies—HoSt Energy Systems and Foseco Vesuvius—both with strong connections to the UT.

The event kicked off at the HoSt Group headquarters, where participants met the company's founder, UT alumnus Herman Klein Teeselink. He shared insights into the company’s journey and his career evolution, leading up to his son, Jelle Klein Teeselink—also a UT alumnus—now steering the company’s global work in biogas, methanol, and hydrogen production. Alumnus Vincent Kroeze, process engineer, followed with an engaging presentation on proactive data tracking, inviting attendees to participate in a Q&A that highlighted the importance of forward-thinking in business. Mariette Huis in 't Veld, the event organizer at HoSt, ensured participants took a deep dive into HoSt’s key contributions to renewable energy and the circular economy worldwide.

After the session at HoSt, the group took a short walk to the Foseco/Vesuvius facility, just ten minutes away but worlds apart in focus. There, host Erick Veldhuis welcomed the participants, and alumnus Jurgen Radstake, global product manager, began with an overview of Foseco's advanced work in feeder sleeves, castings, coatings, and metal treatments for foundries globally. Mechanical engineering graduate Jan Veenhuis followed with a presentation on his research, earning top marks for his study on the impact of rare earth elements on aluminum alloy castability.

The visit included a guided tour of the Foseco plant, where attendees explored the lab, testing foundry, and maintenance areas, witnessing state-of-the-art technology. The evening wrapped up with networking drinks, allowing for informal discussions and a free exchange of ideas.

The UT Alumni Office and KIVI Students Twente express their gratitude to HoSt and Foseco/Vesuvius for a fascinating and warm-hearted experience, which provided a unique glimpse into the forefront of high-tech industries.
