Last year the Dutch technical universities added Switzerland to the world map of their shared ‘DEAN’ alumni communities* with a great launch event at ETH Zurich focused on start-ups and entrepreneurship. In November 2019, Twente together with the other TUs will be back with exciting events at CERN Geneva and Google Zurich with a spotlight now on alumni active in research and the high tech sectors.
Local UT'ers are invited to tap into a network of 2200+ TU Delft, UTwente, TU/e and Wageningen alumni living in Switzerland and join fellow ‘TU’ers’ as well as representatives from our universities – we hope to see you on November 19th in Geneva and/or November 20th in Zurich!
Please see below for more details about each event including registration links:
Geneva, Tuesday November 19th – 17:30hr to 21:30hr
CERN operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world and among its +2500 staff members you can also find over 30 TU alumni! Join our first alumni gathering in Geneva which will be opened by Ms Hedda Samson, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Switzerland. Also in attendance are event co-hosts Bart Sattler Innovation Attaché for Switzerland and Germany on behalf of the Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs, and Jan Visser Dutch Coordinator Industrial Contacts for CERN.
What to expect at CERN? Join earlier optional tours of CERN’s rapid prototyping facility IdeaSquare (16:00-17:00, limited to 25 spots) and/or visiting centre with alumni guides (17:00-17:30). The formal programme includes talks about CERN research and education activities, a panel of TU students sharing local internship experiences, updates from Twente and the other TUs, and concluding networking drinks with finger food.

Zurich, Wednesday November 20th 17:00hr to 20:00hr
As one of Google’s largest offices in Europe with over 2.000 employees, it’s no surprise to also find a concentration of TU alumni at the Google Zurich Campus! The building is located only a few minutes’ walk from Lake Zurich on the site of an old brewery. During this event you will hear from ‘Zooglers’ about life in the high tech sector as well as experiences working in spaces where meetings take place in gondolas, people travel via slides, and Friday 'borrels' are signaled by the ‘Heidi’ theme song.
What to expect at Google? Brief talks from local alumni about their careers paths and current work followed by questions from the audience. Representatives from the alumni offices will give updates from our universities followed by concluding networking drinks with finger food.
