Alumni Talks 2024

On Friday, October 4, 2024, the Alumni Talks will take place once again! During this annual event, three prominent alumni will look back on their surprising, progressive, or eventful careers and provide insights into the challenges in their current activities. The common thread throughout: what drives them? An afternoon full of inspiration for every alum, student, staff member, and other interested parties. Plenty of opportunities to ask questions in the auditorium or during the drinks afterward!

SPEAKERS 2024

This year, we welcome Maurice te Plate, Merel Boers, and John Voppen. Maurice te Plate studied Applied Physics from 1988 to 1993. For about 25 years, Te Plate has been a systems engineer for the James Webb Space Telescope, and since 2012, he has been seconded to NASA from ESA. According to him, what is the "next step" in the development of space telescopes, and what can engineers currently being trained at the UT contribute to this? Merel Boers studied Technical Medicine from 2007 to 2014 and graduated cum laude in 2018 on a new stroke treatment that was twice as effective as any other treatment at that time, using AI. To bring this new method to market, she founded her own company, Nicolab. According to her, what will be the role of AI in healthcare? John Voppen studied Industrial Engineering & Management from 1990 to 1996 and has been CEO of ProRail since 2019. He will talk about the challenges facing ProRail in modernizing and future-proofing an overcrowded rail system.
