Selm De Bruyne was born in Wilrijk, Belgium in the year 1982. In 2000 he started his studies for technical chemical engineer in Antwerp at the Hogeschool Antwerpen. In 2004 he did his master these around shear driven chromatography in sub-micron channels at the department of chemical engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (CHIS, VUB, Brussels, Belgium). After graduating for technical chemical engineer, he started his studies for academic chemical engineer at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In 2006 he did his second master these around injection and detection in on-chip chromatographic systems also at CHIS, VUB. In the same year he started his PhD studies in the Nextchrom-project. The aim of this project is to create a commercially competitive chromatographic on-chip system and is a cooperation between several research groups among which CHIS, VUB and MCS, Utwente.
