Validation of Wearable Stress Measurement Devices in Virtual Reality

Organisation

HPT section

Location

Cubicus, UT (no dedicated office space, but the student attends meetings and lab sessions)

Period

November- February

Brief description of the assignment

The organization:

Become part of the Stress-in-Action project and join 65 multidisciplinary scientists from six Dutch Universities collaborating around the theme “stress in daily life”. Visit stress-in-action.nl for more information.

The assignment:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and independent student with an interest in physiology of stress and technology used to measure stress in daily life, such as smartwatches. Your main task will be to run a short VR validation study in which you will compare the Biopac’s wireless electrodermal activity sensor, as well as that of a wearable device, to a gold standard reference device. Next to that, you will help with the development and testing of version 0 of our VR validation pipeline. Therefore, willingness to work with VR as a potential tool for stress induction is needed for this project, although a substantial amount of guidance will be provided. Your final deliverable will be a written report outlining the goals, procedure and results of the study. Within this project you will be able to quickly develop both your theoretical knowledge on physiology of stress, as well as research- and technical skills that are needed to validate wearable devices through the use of VR.
