Nishant Kumar is a PhD student at the Mathematics of Computational Science (MACS) group, at the University of Twente, under Shell FOM Research Program. His supervisor is Prof.dr.ir J.J.W.van der Vegt .
He did his Intergrated Masters from Indian Institute of Kharagpur in Exploration Geophysics with Minor degree in Mathematics and Computing.
He will be working on a project titled “Port-Hamiltonian Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Seismic Wave Computations”, the project aims to increase the accuracy of seismic wave computations in heterogeneous elastic media that may contain cracks, holes, thin layers and other local structures by developing discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretizations that preserve the mathematical structure of the (an)isotropic elastic wave equations.
