Vacancies for 2 PhD students

Molecular NanoFabrication group (Prof. Jurriaan Huskens) University of Twente, The Netherlands

Vacancies on fascinating and challenging biosensing projects for two PhD students:

1.       PhD student to develop surface chemistry for an optical biosensor that detects biomarkers for veterinary diseases: tasks will be to develop surface chemistry for an optical biosensing platform with control over the receptor density and antifouling properties, to perform biomarker binding measurements using surface-analytical techniques (typically, QCM, SPR and/or fluorescence microscopy), and to analyze and interpret the data. This project is in collaboration with Royal GD (veterinary institute, Deventer, NL). You must have an MSc degree in chemistry (or closely related and relevant discipline) at the moment of employment, with high preference for candidates with proven relevant research experience.

 2.       PhD student to develop surface chemistry for an optical biosensor that employs enzymes as receptors: tasks will be to develop surface chemistry for attaching enzymes to an optical biosensing platform aiming at high sensitivity, performing biomarker detection measurements using surface-analytical techniques (typically, QCM, SPR and/or fluorescence microscopy), and analyze and interpret the data. This project is in collaboration with the companies Lionix and ChiralVision. You must have an MSc degree in chemistry (or closely related and relevant discipline) at the moment of employment, with high preference for candidates with proven relevant research experience.

Both projects are part of the large national “Groeifonds” program NxtGen Hightech. Contract (4 years), salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities.

The positions are available right now. Deadline of application: Feb 28, 2023 (or until filled). Applications should include:

·         CV (including publication list where applicable)

·         transcript of your MSc course grades

·         motivation letter targeted to one (or both) of the projects above

·         contact info of at least two references.
