Mariella Polino was born in Italy on the 28th February 1989. Since 2013, she holds a MSc degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology by the University of Calabria (Italy). Her MSc thesis was dedicated to the development of new hydrogel composite materials for protein crystallization. In 2014 she joined the PhD Program EUDIME (Erasmus Mundus Doctorate in Membrane Engineering) at the New University of Lisbon (Portugal). Her PhD research is focused on the application of ion-exchange membranes for protein crystallization and crystals derivatization. She has been a visiting PhD student in the MCS group at the University of Twente From October 2016 till April 2017, to develop a membrane-integrated microdevice for protein crystallization. She expects to defend her PhD thesis in March 2019.
