Biography
I was born and raised in Breda, where I completed high school at the local Stedelijk Gymnasium. I then started my studies of Chemical Engineering at the University of Twente, where I became more and more interested in biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. After an internship in Barcelona on the formation of PLA scaffolds by temperature induced phase separation, I started my Master project in the Molecular Cell Biology group. Here, I worked with mesenchymal stem cells, studying the effect of extracellular matrix proteins on pluripotency. After graduating (cum laude J), I wrote a research proposal for my PhD project and received an NWO Casimir grant. Outside working hours, I am an enthusiastic triathlete. I have completed a marathon and two Iron mans and I’m always dreaming about participation in future events.
Research
My project is centered around the development and application of the Pepchip, a peptide microarray for the parallel analysis of kinase activities. This project is a collaboration with Pepscan Presto bv in Lelystad, the company that produces the Pepchip. My main focus is on improvement of data analysis. In collaboration with the computer science department at the UT, I also work on the development of ANIMO, an acronym for Analysis of Networks with Interactive Modeling. ANIMO is a software tool to assist in the creation and exploration of executable models, that can be used for simulations, hypothesis generation and in silico experiments on signal transduction networks.
