Why does one movie affect you so much and why have you forgotten about the other immediately after watching it? What makes you sympathise or not? In what ways can you experience movies? Movie scholar Gerlinda Heywegen discusses the mechanisms of watching movies. It turns out that in the dark cinema we are not nearly as autonomous as we might think. Using a number of movie analyses, she delves deeper into that viewing process. How can camerawork manipulate us or give us room to think and feel? Why can we sometimes identify for an entire movie with characters we would really rather not be in our own lives? In collaboration with Concordia Cinema.
