Twente textiles of the future Science Café Enschede

From a small village, Enschede grew into a big city in 700 years. How? Through the textile industry. All those factories have closed down, but the young company Enschede Textielstad is weaving again. In a sustainable way. Without poorly paid workers. With recycled fabrics from the region or Dutch linen and wool. All made with a state-of-the-art gigantic weaving machine. Owner Drs Annemieke Koster (UT-alumna) explains how her company works by means of practical examples. She works together with the TexPlus foundation, in which Saxion is also represented. Drs Maud Kuppen (Saxion) focuses on textile sustainability, such as mechanical and chemical recycling. She also experiments with alternative raw materials such as flax and hemp.
