During National Peace Week, Jaap de Wilde reflects on the concept of peace. He makes clear that peace is meaningless without its opposite, war. Attempts to define peace separately from a war situation, therefore, come to nothing. Using various European, American and UN examples, De Wilde shows that peace and war are inextricably linked. The concept of peace is therefore always politically charged and controversial; so watch out for peace! Prof Jaap de Wilde is Professor of International Relations and Security Studies at the University of Groningen. In cooperation with: Enschede for Peace, NovelT-SMART, Ideefiks and Sirius.
