A world without polar ice?

The most recent report from the UN panel on climate change (IPCC) is very clear about the fact that our planet is warming at an increasing rate. In polar regions, warming is becoming manifest: melting glaciers and crumbling ice sheets. Will this melting process eventually reach a tipping point, resulting in a new equilibrium, maybe even without any ice at all? And could cold meltwater slow down the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic Ocean? Lots of questions. Luckily glaciologist Dr. Peter Kuipers Munneke (Utrecht University and weatherman for NOS) is willing to answer them!
