CANCELLED: Climate forecasts: limits to predictability

FYSICA 2020 was planned at University of Twente on Friday 17 April 2020.

Due to the corona virus, it is not possible to organise FYSICA at University of Twente at this date.

At the moment the organising committee is investigating several options:

  • change into a digital event on April 17th;
  • postpone FYSICA to another date;
  • worst case scenario: cancel FYSICA 2020 totally.

Please check the Studium Generale website for the latest information or check: FYSICA 2020

Our climate is changing. In order to predict what’s going to happen with temperature and precipitation in the long term accurate climate models are crucial. Peter Bauer (Director of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) explains how climate models can be made more reliable. Ad Lagendijk (physicist at UvA & UT) reflects on tensions between accuracy and costs. Albert van den Berg (scientific director of MESA+) will discuss algae-on-chip to study the oceanic carbon cycle for CO2-capture. What will be the effect of climate-engineering? With panel discussion! In cooperation with FYSICA 2020 and KIVI.
