Dear recently arrived female academics,
The FFNT (www.utwente.nl/ffnt ) is the Female Faculty Network of the University of Twente, and it is the organization for supporting and developing networking among female academic staff at the UT and in The Netherlands. The FFNT offers lectures, workshops and trainings for female faculty.
Besides, the FFNT wishes to greet and meet recently arrived female PhD students, PostDocs, lecturers and Professors. Therefore we invite you for a lunch-meeting with the symbolic title Cycling through the Dutch jungle. The aim of the lunch-meeting is to exchange experience in a relaxed atmosphere on adapting to the UT environment and to every day’s life in The Netherlands. We wish to support you with personal experience and advice of FFNT members because we all have or had the same doubts and questions when we first started to work and live here.
One useful source of information is surely UTnieuws http://www.utnieuws.utwente.nl/new/, which once stated that the main helpers for the newcomers are the Department’s secretaries. Next to this, the FFNT also wishes to support newly arrived female academics in a relaxed atmosphere, and help you to easily “cycle” through the “Dutch jungle” and to quickly figure out the way everything works by discussing it with others who already fought their way through the jungle.
The FFNT invites all academic female newcomers who arrived in the last six months, to meet the FFNT members who are in The Netherlands for a longer period and who are eager to exchange experience on living in The Netherlands and working at the University of Twente.
The meeting will take place on Thursday May 20th 2010, in the Faculty Club from 12:30 - 14:00 hrs. We hope to meet you there.
If you find yourself interested in participating, please confirm your attendance by e-mail "FFNT@utwente.nl" before the 14th May.
On behalf of the FFNT board
FFNT aims to support the professional development of women in academia and to provide a network for sharing and exchanging experience. It develops workshops and lectures specially for women and also organises activities aimed at women jointly with PA&O (whose activities are otherwise gender neutral.
