Women in Chemistry, Symposium

Dear Madam,

On behalf of Louis Vertegaal, director of the Chemical Sciences Council of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO-CW), I am pleased to invite you for the first “Women in Chemistry” Symposium which will be held on Friday, 14 November, 2008. This symposium will take place from 10.00 – 18.15 at the NWO Java building, The Hague.

NWO-CW has the aim to enhance academic career opportunities for female researchers in (bio) chemistry and (bio) technology at all levels (PhD, junior staff, professorships) and has developed several instruments for this purpose. With the Women in Chemistry symposium NWO-CW aims to stimulate the interaction and the exchange of results between female researchers, and enhance their visibility within the academic world.

The morning session will include lectures given by Dr. Petra de Jongh (Utrecht University), Prof. Jennifer Herek (University of Twente) and drs. Marieke van den Brink (Radboud University of Nijmegen).

Lectures and workshops

The program also includes several workshops on research funding and career development. From 15.30 hours the symposium will be open to everyone interested. Professor Sabine Flitsch from the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (MIB) will give a lecture about her research and her scientific career. The symposium will be concluded with the presentation of the first Athena Premium to Dr. Louise van der Weerd (LUMC).

Registration and information

Registration for the symposium, which is free of charge, and for the workshops is available at www.nwo.nl/cw/womeninchemistry. To enable a smooth organisation we would like to receive your registrations by Friday 31 October at the latest.

Further information, as well as a route description is also available at the website.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the symposium (tel. 070-34 40810/ e-mail Mangundap@nwo.nl)

We are looking forward to see you in November.
