Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Phishing
Type: Master CS
Period (Start date): September 12, 2024, -

Objective:
The project aims to analyse human behaviour considering security and safety features using the elements from the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model. It helps to understand how such factors influence an individual’s decision to click on phishing emails.
Description:
In the project, we use vignettes to simulate real-world conditions enabling security and safety features under which one can influence to click on a phishing email. The designed scenarios consider various psychological and social factors inspired by e.g. the TPB model that influence behaviour, such as attitudes, and subjective norms. The aim of the project is to develop a set of sample questions for each factor suitable for the contexts related to security and safety criteria that influence participants’ decision-making process. The participant’s responses will be analysed by employing statistical techniques to test the hypothesis and identify important factors of phishing email susceptibility based on the TPB model. This further enables highlighting any observations and/or patterns to gain insights into participants’ responses to phishing emails. The researcher also proposes recommendations for the organization level to reduce susceptibility to phishing attacks.
Requirements:
- Interest in the security and safety domain
- Quantitative analysis (e.g., R, SPSS).
- Interactive survey platform (e.g. Qualtrics)
- Knowledge of Python (if ML includes)
