MAster assignment
Developing a Framework for Verifying the Age of Children Under 12 Years Using social media in the Netherlands
Type: Master CS
Period: September 20, 2024 -
Student: Kemp, E. (Erik, Student M-CS)
Supervisor:
Aim: Now a day, children are quite enthusiastic about investing their time in social platforms. Usually, the age is defined in all such platforms where one has to provide a self-declarative age for using the platform. There is no way in which these platforms can verify the age of the children. To meet legal requirements and defend children from offensive content or online dangers, it necessitates addressing the issue of age verification. To balance privacy, security, and usability concerns, the project will investigate the various age verification techniques now in use, examine their shortcomings, and then suggest a novel alternative, for example, verification of age through Digi ID while creating your account (Country specific). The prototype will follow the security-by-design framework.
Requirements:
- You will conduct a detailed literature review on age verification methods, child protection, and social media.
- You should become familiar with laws and policies pertaining to social media use, data privacy, and child protection in the Netherlands.
- Data collection and analysis
- Prototype development, Usability testing, and Analysis of the proposed solution.
