Abstract:

The research explores the current state of digitalisation and interoperability, identifies existing challenges, and explores the anticipated future of interoperability in logistics. Key findings underscore the importance of improving collaborative interoperable data sharing practices to mitigate existing logistical challenges and unlock additional value for logistics entities. To contribute to the improvement of these practises, a collaborative assessment and decision-support tool is designed and developed. The tool, designed for Freight Technology Providers (FTPs), helps them assist Logistic Service Providers (LSPs) in assessing co-creatable opportunities related to interoperability and data standardisation, along with the benefits associated to these opportunities. Using the Design Science Methodology, the research conducts iterative design and development cycles, incorporating additional stakeholder feedback. The proposed tool integrates a structured assessment framework to help LSPs identify mutually beneficial interoperability opportunities, assess the qualitative value impact of these opportunities, and facilitate collaboration. The tool provides a method to aggregate individual assessments, supporting strategic collaborative decision-making. The developed tool aims to improve data sharing practices, facilitate co-created digital transformation – where entities can share cost and resources to unlock mutually beneficial opportunities. Through this the tool aims to enable SMEs to remain competitive in an increasingly interconnected logistics environment.
