Title: On the geometry of flaps in integrable Hamiltonian systems

Abstract:

Finite-dimensional integrable systems exhibit a variety of singularities and bifurcations, such as vanishing of cycles and splittings of invariant tori. In this talk, we shall discuss one particular arrangement of singularities of integrable systems known as a flap, supporting a pair of cusps connected by a family of hyperbolic critical values. We shall explain how flap singularities appear in specific integrable models of classical mechanics, discuss the associated topology, including (fractional) monodromy, and outline their symplectic classification.

The talk is based on joint works with Konstantinos Efstathiou and Elena A. Kudryavtseva.
