Computational neuroscience and dynamical systems

We work on theory and tools for numerical analysis of dynamical systems. Bifurcation theory is a cornerstone for this analysis, and we actively work with the bifurcation toolbox MatCont.

As an example, time-dependent neurological data is often subject to subjective visual interpretation, and understanding clinically relevant features remains a  challenge. In collaboration with clinicians, neuroscientists, we analyse data and develop novel models with the correct biophysics. Using these models, we aid in clinical diagnosis and seek novel neurostimulation protocols. Key application areas are ischemia and epilepsy.

The models concern single neurons as well as neural masses and neural fields for populations. More generally, this leads us to study dynamics on graphs. This topic is also relevant for gene-regulatory networks.
