Applied Mathematics Talent Programme

WHO WE ARE

We foster outstanding students who study Applied Mathematics at the University of Twente either as a single subject or as part of a double-degree course. 

WHAT WE DO

Students who have been admitted to the programme receive -- alongside their standard curriculum -- individual supervision and academic promotion through a team of professors with extraordinary experience in the development of particularly talented students. This is achieved through a bundle of measures that aim at both the individual student and the group of all students in the programme.

WHOM WE ACCEPT

Requirements for admission to the programme are excellent prior academic performance and a recommendation letter from a university professor.  

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know whether I am a talent?

Talent is the promise of future accomplishment and achievements. In some sense, it takes an accomplished talent to recognize a new talent. This is why we select new students for the programme on recommendation by university professors only. 

The short and practical answer is that if you have been recommended, we consider you a serious candidate for the programme. You will then be invited to submit your past academic record together with an application form and attend an interview. 

If you are interested in the programme, but are not sure whether you qualify or should apply, we are happy to have an informal chat with you. 

What is the philosophy behind the programme?

We believe in continuing growth, rather than static ability. 

Steady effort of an average student beats a non-developed talent in the long run. Steady effort of a talent, on the other hand, can hardly be beaten at anything.

How and when can I apply?

Any student during their first year can apply. In exceptional cases, we accept applications from particularly talented high-school students who are in the process of applying to the university.
