This General Term & Conditions page applies to CurioCities: Futures Unlocked* in 2025.
Please read this General Terms & Conditions page carefully, before you register for CurioCities: Futures Unlocked*. By submitting the registration form, the (Prospective) Participant of CurioCities declares to have received these regulations from University of Twente, and in addition, declares himself/herself in agreement with its contents.
Definitions
- CurioCities: Name of the city trip, provided by University of Twente.
- Futures Unlocked*: Subtitle of this year's (2025) CurioCities.
- University of Twente: Service provider of CurioCities. Also known as UT.
- Programme Fee: The costs for participating in CurioCities. Also known as ticket.
- Prospective Participant: a person who fills out the registration form, pays the Programme Fee and receives a confirmation of their registration.
- Participant: a bachelor's/undergraduate student who, after having received a confirmation of their registration, has also received a confirmation of their registration and who will therefore participate in CurioCities.
Admission and registration
1. The Prospective Participant can only register for CurioCities via 'aanmelder.nl', where the registration form can be filled out and the payment can be made. The Prospective Participant needs to submit the completed registration form, and will then be referred to options to pay the Programme Fee.
- When the registration form is submitted, and the registration is followed by payment, the Prospective Participant will receive a confirmation of the provisional registration for CurioCities, subject to the Prospective Participant meeting the requirements.
- University of Twente will assess the registration first (see clause 6). After approval, the confirmation of the registration will be sent to the Prospective Participant (ultimately) within 1 week after payment. The reception date of the payment will be considered the registration date.
2. If tickets are sold out, the Prospective Participant may choose to be placed on the waiting list. The Prospective Participant who is on top of the waiting list will receive a notification when there is a ticket available. First come, first serve. The Prospective Partipant can be on the waiting list for a maximum of 14 days.
3. The Prospective Participant can fill out the registration form until and including the 31st of May, 2025. When the registration form is closed, it will not be possible to register for CurioCities.
4. It is the participant's responsibility to determine whether their English proficiency (IELTS 6.0, B2/C1, TOEFL iBT 80 or equivalent) is sufficient to fully participate in CurioCities. University of Twente is not liable for this, nor will any tests be administered.
Privacy
5. We act in good faith to provide the (Prospective) Participant with access to their personal information, and to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at their request if it does not otherwise need to be retained by law or for evaluation purposes. Furthermore, we may use the participant's email address for communication purposes related to CurioCities. Our general privacy statement for University of Twente is valid for CurioCities as well.
Cancellation policy
Cancellation by University of Twente
6. The University of Twente assesses the incoming registration from a Prospective Participant to:
- ensure UTs compliance with applicable international sanctions and export control law; and
- check whether the Prospective Participant is registered at the university as indicated in the registration form. In the registration form, the Prospective Participant is asked to upload a document that contains -at least- a registration date of the current academic year and study programme at this university.
The University of Twente reserves the right to cancel a registration of a Prospective Participant if any of the requirements as stipulated in this clause cannot be met.
7. On the occasion that the University of Twente decides to cancel CurioCities due to restrictions or national regulations related to (e.g.) public health or other force majeure situations, the participant will be informed at their earliest convenience.
Cancellation by participant
8. If the Participant wants to cancel their registration, it is possible to receive (partial) reimbursement:
- Cancellation before the 1st of May (midnight CET):
100% Programme Fee reimbursement; - Cancellation from 1 May 2025 until and including the 15th of May 2025 (midnight CET):
50% Programme Fee reimbursement; or - Cancellation from 16 May 2025 until and including the 31st of May 2025 (midnight CET):
0% Programme Fee reimbursement.
9. Obtaining an appropriate visa is the participant’s personal responsibility. Failure to obtain a visa does not exempt the participant from their payment obligation of the Programme Fee. Subject to clause 8, Programme Fee reimbursement by University of Twente is not possible.
10. If a participant has received an Erasmus+ Short-Term Exchange grant, and the Participant wants to cancel their registration, the Participant needs to contact their university's office for cancellation policies. Subject to clause 8, Programme Fee reimbursement by University of Twente is not possible.
Liability
11. The University of Twente is not liable for any damages caused or incurred by Participant. Furthermore, travelling and/or personal expenses made in case of a termination pursuant to clause 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. For the avoidance of doubt:
- in the event the UT terminates CurioCities in accordance with clause 6 or 7, only the Programme Fee will be reimbursed.
- in the event the Participant cancels their registration, only the Programme Fee will be (partially) reimbursed subject to clause 8.
Insurances
12. We highly recommend the Participant to get travel and cancellation insurance. Obtaining an appropriate insurance is the Participant’s personal responsibility. Refunds due to the termination of CurioCities depend on the conditions set by the insurance company. Furthermore, Participants are responsible for procuring the appropriate insurances (third party liability/civil liability, accident and health insurance) during their time at CurioCities.
Fifth ticket as a gift
13. When four (Prospective) Participants -registered at the same university- have registered for CurioCities, University of Twente sends a email to these (Prospective) Participants with a request (their email addresses will not be visible): In this email, these (Prospective) Participants will be asked to share the name and email address of a fifth student registered at the same university.
14. The first reply to this email that contains the name and email address of a student who has not yet registered for CurioCities, will be processed by University of Twente. University of Twente send an email to this email address, with the reason of this email, information about CurioCities and a promo code.
15. Only the Prospective Participant who receives the promo code from CurioCities, may use this promo code. Their name and email address, mentioned in the processed reply (see clause 14) will be compared with the name and email address in the registration form. When other Prospective Participants use this promo code in the registration process, this registration will be cancelled.
16. This promo code can be used only once.
17. When tickets are sold out, it will not be possible for the Prospective Participant with a promo code, to register for CurioCities (with or without using the promo code). The Prospective Participant may want to put themself on the waiting list (see clause 2).
18. The Prospective Participant may use the promocode until and including the 31st of May, 2025. When the registration form is closed, it will not be possible to register for CurioCities.
19. The General Terms & Conditions on this page are also applicable for the Prospective Participant that may use the received promo code.
Final provisions
20. Students from international universities who have registered for CurioCities do not contribute to the change in the exchange balance between the University of Twente and the university where these students are registered. Please contact your exchange coordinator at the University of Twente for more information on the current exchange balance between these universities.
21. University of Twente will decide in reasonableness and in fairness for any unforeseen or other situations not covered by these terms and conditions.
22. These terms and conditions (and any agreement between the (Prospective) Participant and the University of Twente shall be governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes resulting from these terms and conditions between participants and the organisation of CurioCities that cannot be resolved in mutual consultation good faith discussion between the (Prospective) Participant and University of Twente. In the event a dispute cannot be settled amicably, the Parties shall submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Overijssel.
