Meet the Rijzer, the Zwoeger and the Voeler.
With the company Boost Producties, creator Lennie Visser creates unique circus performances that explore the boundaries between movement theatre, circus, dance and visual arts. To fuel the conversation about ezameness and connection, Lennie created a trio of contemporary, magnified characteristieken. Better known as Waterqueens!
"Waterqueens"
tells the story of rage, beauty and cracking wood. The myth of three talented women with toxic ambitions, each seeking solo fame. Their fragile relationships, infused with intense resentment and jealousy, and their journey in living together. Brought to life on the water by dancer Celina Montana and circus artist Erin Burley, aerial acrobat Mizai Kobi, actors Lennie Visser and Nilo Cappelletti, and scenographer Jelle Engel. From the quay, be swept away by the visual splendour of "Waterqueens".
Background
From "Evolution of Demons, Characteristics in Overdrive", a visual artwork developed in June 2024 commissioned and co-produced with the Bosch Parade, Lennie creates the performance "Waterqueens"'' premiering at "Porto Circolo"!
Waterqueens are contrasting characteristics: The Rijzer, The Zwoeger and The Voeler. Their names reflect their symbolic roles. The Rijzer is a self-centred demon who embodies selfishness and arrogance. The opportunistic Zealot symbolises a ruthless materialist. The Feeler represents fragile, one-dimensional sensibility. The story of "Waterqueens" explores the journey of three powerful women learning to live together. Initially filled with jealousy, envy and struggle, they gradually move towards empowerment and embrace eventually tolerance for each other. Thus, they evolve into Waterqueens, embodying in time and space the sense of freedom, love and recognition.
