Female Rolina Nell

Is it the melancholy of the woman seeking self-realization that Rolina Nell depicts in her work?
Have the women become the way they are on themselves or more by the influence of their environment or country of origin?

The women-theme in Rolina Nell’s work could be caused by her sisterly involvement, by being a woman herself she might look in a way at women as if it was herself unaware of being watched. She observes for instance women in their daily life in public; in bus or train, contemplating whilst waiting.

But a recent drawing could swing you in a different direction. It is a drawing of a woman, standing with bent back,  washing her hair in a bucket. At first you just see the somewhat sad looking posture of this woman, with her upper body hanging downwards. At second glance you notice the bucket. After seeing  other drawing and painting of Rolina you might think that this subject was chosen on purpose, just for her posture.

With her work Rolina Nell gives you questions instead of answers, as many other artists do.

A Meet & Greet is on Thursday 14 December 19.30.
