Risk Assessment and Regulation of Health Technologies

This course will examine critically the requirements, methods and regulations introduced to contribute to creating safe health technologies. Students will gain knowledge of requirements and methods introduced to balance the risks and benefits of drugs and other medical technologies. The course also addresses aspects of legal governance. In this respect it aims at providing knowledge regarding effective and legitimate health care technology regulation. Special attention will be paid to the protective, supportive and trust building functions of regulatory governance of technological innovation. The course includes two themes: I Risks: Models and Test Practices; II Regulatory governance of medical technology: problems of effectiveness and legitimacy.
