module 11: Philosophy and ethics of social science
In relation to the work in social science that students do in this module, this course enables students to reflect critically and systematically on their work as a social scientist, by introducing them to the philosophical aspects of being a social scientist. This will involve not only learning about the ethics of social science (e.g., the ethical issues underlying social science research), but also about larger questions concerning the very nature of social science: what is the ‘social’, and how can it be studied scientifically?

module 12: Moral leadership
In this course, students will develop skills in normative reflection, focusing on issues of moral leadership. Building upon the theoretical analyses in module 11, students look at both literary examples of ethical dilemmas in leadership and at contemporary examples of ethical dilemmas in leadership. They work in groups to analyze these examples, culminating in a debate on the ethics of a particular contemporary political / societal crisis with student groups taking up the roles of those involved in the crisis
