Civil Engineering

Module 6: Sustainable Engineering / Social Sustainability

RESTS Teacher: Alexandria Poole (Section Philosophy)

Modules 11 &12: Philosophy of engineering, Knowledge production, Reflection in BSc-thesis project
In this combination of modules 11 and 12, the focus is on critical and systematic reflection on the role and production of knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering. What is knowledge? How is knowledge generated and used and by whom? How may I generate knowledge myself? Special attention is paid to the role of models within the different subfields of Civil Engineering, the role of actors within the production and dissemination of knowledge, and the production of knowledge in relation to time and space. Also, students are enabled to reflect on the process of doing research: research design, research techniques, and research planning.

RESTS Teachers: Miles MacLeod (Section Philosophy) and Peter Stegmaier (KiTES)
