Internship Assignment – Preparing a Wearable Stress Study for Open Science Registration
Background
This internship is part of the Stress in Action project, which aims to enhance real-world stress measurement and intervention strategies. Wearable health technology plays a crucial role in this effort, but selecting the right device and ensuring seamless data integration are key challenges. This internship will focus on preparing for OSF preregistration, evaluating potential replacements for the Garmin Forerunner 255, streamlining our TEAMS environment, and preparing data collection tools (mPath & Qualtrics).
Objectives
During this internship, you will:
- Preregister the study in Open Science Framework (OSF) to ensure transparency and scientific rigor.
- Identify a suitable replacement for the Garmin Forerunner 255, assessing key features, compatibility with stress monitoring, and integration potential.
- Streamline the TEAMS environment for better collaboration and project documentation.
- Prepare and verify mPath & Qualtrics applications and questionnaires, ensuring they are functional and aligned with study goals.
- Assist in structuring and aligning existing datasets, including those from another university, to facilitate future analyses.
Internship Deliverables
- Internship Product:
- A preregistration document in OSF format. A wearable device evaluation report with a recommended Garmin replacement. A reorganized and optimized TEAMS environment for research collaboration. Tested and optimized mPath & Qualtrics applications, ensuring survey readiness. A structured dataset, prepared for further analysis and cross-university comparisons.
- Reflective Report:
- Personal and academic learning reflections on research preparation. Evaluation of challenges in device selection, OSF registration, and digital tool setup.
Who Are We Looking For?
We seek a motivated student with an interest in wearable technology, stress research, and digital research tools. Strong analytical, organizational, and technical skills are key, along with the ability to work independently while collaborating with the research team.
Supervision
- Internship Supervisor: Prof. Matthijs Noordzij
- Internship Type: Internal (University of Twente)
This internship lays a strong foundation for a master thesis, where you can build upon your preparatory work to conduct and analyze a full-scale study.
