What Works for Tinnitus? Insights from 30 Patient Interviews
Method Stream: Qualitative Research
ECs: Only 14 EC (standard, no new/own data collection. Applicable in case of a clinical internship)
Description:
Tinnitus Academie is a specialized clinic located on the outskirts of Enschede, dedicated to managing bothersome tinnitus—the perception of sound without an external source. While tinnitus itself is usually benign, it can significantly impact daily life, leading to high psychosocial burden and comorbidities such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia. These challenges contribute to a decrease in quality of life and well-being, making clinical management complex and requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
In this assignment, you will analyze already collected qualitative data from interviews with tinnitus patients who have undergone a psychotherapeutic intervention. The interviews explore: a) Initial expectations of the treatment; b) Experiences during the treatment process; c) Perceived changes in tinnitus after the intervention and d) Alignment between patient-reported changes and questionnaire outcomes.
Your analysis will provide deeper insights into how patients perceive their treatment journey and whether their subjective experiences align with standard measurement tools.
What You Will Gain
- Experience in qualitative data analysis (e.g., thematic analysis)
- Insights into patient-centered care in tinnitus management
- A better understanding of the complex relationship between subjective experience and clinical assessment tools
