Organisation Medisch Spectrum Twente, Rheumatology Department

Location Enschede, the Netherlands

Period of internship October 2025 (could be combined with thesis)

Description of Assignment

Traditional RA disease monitoring relies on non-continuous and infrequent clinical assessments. Furthermore, patient-reported outcomes can be subjective and sometimes fail to capture fluctuations in disease activity of patients. To try and solve this problem the need for continuous and objective monitoring methods, such as wearable devices, has grown.

In this assignment, RA patients will be followed after receiving a 120mg TCA injection because of high disease activity. The follow up period is 30 days, during which data will be collected over 14 days with a MoveMonitor and 30 days with a Cardiowatch. Monitoring of heart rate, activity levels, sleep and movement (gait) will be gathered. For data analysis, a descriptive statistics (analyzing trends) and correlation analysis comparing the digital biomarkers with clinical disease activity scores and the patient questionnaires.
