The implementation of Nivolumab in the Dutch Health Care System

On the 9th of January our ISPOR University of Twente Student Chapter will organize an educational symposium from 13:45 – 17:00, followed by drinks until 18:00. Students from Health Sciences (HS) and Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) are the target audience of this symposium, but we also invited students from Biomedical Engineering and Technical Medicine, and other interested parties. The symposium aims to give the students some examples of where they can work after their studies and what can be expected of them.

We will try to do this by talking along a case-study; the implementation of Nivolumab. For this very expensive drug, there has been quite a long negotiation period on its price (related to HS). When they finally got it reimbursed the drug still wasn’t used in the hospitals, as there was not enough capacity and resources for its implementation (related to IEM).

Govert Verhoog and Erwin Hans will be the chairs of this symposium and will start the afternoon with an introduction to the subject. Next, we will highlight both problems in a bit more detail and relate that to HS and IEM. Jacqueline Zwaap (Zorginstituut Nederland) will go through the process that ZINL follows to evaluate and approve expensive drugs, with specific reference to how they did this with Nivolumab. Chiara Brouns (Menzis) will follow with her presentation on the coverage and potential price negotiations of expensive drugs after ZINL has approved it. Finally, Marly Kiewik (Deloitte) will discuss the role of industrial engineers in healthcare, with a specific focus on the planning and implementation of expensive drugs. The event will end with an interactive debate/discussion followed by some snacks and drinks in the Atrium of Ravelijn. This symposium is free but we ask you to register!
