Practical information
Tuesday 25 November 2025 | 1 pm - 4 pm | University of Twente, Enschede
We cordially invite you to the physical symposium ‘Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging for Oncology: implementation in clinical practice’'. The symposium will be organised prior to the PhD ceremony of Madelon Voets, PhD student at Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organisation (IKNL) and University of Twente, where she will defend her thesis ‘From Promise to Practice: Evaluating the Health and Economic Impact of AI in Breast Cancer Imaging Surveillance’.
Madelon Voets has conducted her research in close collaboration with IKNL and ZGT in recent years. Her dissertation discusses intended insights and methods to improve the health and economic evaluation of AI in medical imaging. The studies in her thesis provide insight into the knowledge gap regarding the rapid increase of AI applications in healthcare, the evaluation of clinical variation in breast cancer care and the use of flexible simulation models to evaluate and optimise the implementation of AI in medical imaging.
The symposium will take a broader perspective on rapid development of AI in medical imaging, and the opportunities and challenges this technology brings to daily healthcare practice.
The symposium will take place from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Auditorium of the TechMed Centre (Technohal), University of Twente, Drienerloolaan 5, Enschede. Afterwards, at 16:45, with a lay talk prior at 16:30, Madelon Voets will defend her thesis in building de Waaier, University of Twente.
Distinguished speakers will guide you through these topics, including:
Prof.dr.ir. Andre Dekker, Maastricht University, Maastricht UMC+ & Maastro Clinic; on ‘Learning AI from Multi-Institutional Cancer Images’
Dr. Ritse Mann, Radboud UMC & NKI, on ‘Innovations in imaging’
Jeroen Geerdink, Innovation Manager ZGT, on ‘The AIFI Project’
Prof. dr. Valesca Retèl, ESHPM & NKI, on ‘HTA of innovations in oncology care’.
Prof. dr.ir. Erik Koffijberg, Universiteit Twente, on "Beyond the AI Algorithm: What is the societal value of efficiency in medical imaging?"
