Our Association
Arabesque is a lively contemporary dance association for students in Enschede situated at University Twente. We offer training/lessons for motivated dancers who are looking for a creative challenge in the spirit of contemporary dance. The association gives opportunities for developing creativity, physical awareness, and performance skills through classes taught by a professional teacher, both lessons embrace the principles of contemporary dance.
In our association, modern dance is taught by technical and choreography lessons on three different levels. The lessons are given by our professional teacher Ana Meireles, and as well by members of the association.
Our lessons
Lessons/training take place on Tuesday evenings between 18.00 and 21.00 in the sports centre of the University of Twente and are taught by Ana Mareiles. The classes are 1.5 hours. We have three groups, divided by level. All groups receive technical and creative lessons cultured towards their level. Contemporary dance by nature is an inclusive genre, dancers from all backgrounds and experiences are welcome. The schedule changes per week, as there are two timeslots and three levels, but this is timely communicated with the members.
Technical lessons
Relaxation to excitement! In our technical lesson, you increase body awareness, develop a strong centre, precision, and deeper understanding of the principles of contemporary dance. We begin each lesson with a “mindfulness” exercise to prepare the interconnection between body/mind for moving, the lesson builds through a warm up to traveling through the space and concludes with a dynamic dance sequence where you can enjoy moving across, in and out of the floor with ease and skill.
Creative lessons
Imagination and inspiration lie at the heart of Arabesque! Contemporary dance encourages expression and personal interpretation, in our creative lesson you gain the tools and experience to create and perform your own dances. These classes offer a range of opportunities to explore the richness and diversity of improvisation and composing your own dances.

To become a member you need to buy a UnionCard, pay the association fee, hand in a filled application form to the board and pay the membership fee (€45 for a year, €28 for one semester).

Red Drop Design
Red Drop Design is a student company that prints clothing/merchandise in Enschede. As our partner, they provide our committees and the board with a discount for printing clothes related to Arabesque. You can provide your own clothing, this can be handed in at the Union Shop in the Bastille from 10:00 to 15:00 on workdays.
