Twente Education Model
The University of Twente has converted these core principles into an education model for the bachelor programmes, the Twente Education Model (TEM). Within TEM, during every 10-week period there is one central theme. The issues integrate technology and design, have social relevance and capitalize on the motivation of students
We have a strong international focus. Our population, for example, comprises more than 3,000 international students and the UT is a partner of the European network of innovative universities. The master's programmes also have an international character. The language of communication here is mostly English.
Technical, behavioural and social sciences come together at the University of Twente. As a student you are concerned with relevant issues at the interface of technology and society, including sustainability, energy, health and safety. The courses on offer are as follows:
Bachelor's and Master's programmes
University of twente offers 20 bachelor's and 31 master's programmes in the field of Biomedical Technology & Health, Engineering, European Public Administration, IT, International Business Administration, Behavioural Sciences and Science & Technology.
Teacher Training Course
The teacher training course leads to a first degree in teaching. It is part of the Master's programmes Science Education and Communication and Teaching in Social Sciences. We offer special tracks for doctoral candidates and lateral entry teachers. Bachelor students can become acquainted with the teaching professional through the minor Learning How to Teach and, subject to conditions, attain a second degree in teaching. Please note that both Master's programmes are taught in Dutch.
The English-taught Bachelor’s programme in Technology and Liberal Arts & Sciences (ATLAS) is a unique educational programme bringing technology and society together. ATLAS is a fulltime Bachelor’s Honours programme for talented students. It is provided by University College Twente, an educational spin-off of the University of Twente.
Twente Graduate School at the University of Twente has a varied offer of integrated master and PhD programmes for excellent master students who aspire a career in scientific research.
Executive Programmes (PLD)
Are you looking for a practice-based part-time programme, master, course or masterclass after having graduated at university or in higher professional education? Professional Learning & Development is THE business school for Dutch higher-educated professionals and managers.
The educational programmes are linked to the subject areas present at the University of Twente. Within this programme, scientific knowledge and its practical application are combined with issues and experiences the participants bring in themselves. New knowledge, sharing experiences, expanding your network and finding new inspiration are at the basis of our programmes for professionals and managers. Please note that all programmes are taught in Dutch.
The University of Twente also offers different short courses and in-service training on multiple topics.
Post-graduate education Technical Medicine (POA-TG)
The POA-TG courses, at the interface between technology and medicine as part of the Technical Medicine programme, are suitable for medical technical officers, biomedical engineers, medical specialists, assistant physicians and other medical professionals. Participants receive high-quality education, given by a broad range of qualified teachers (medical specialists, biomedical engineers and medical technical officers). State-of-the-art facilities are used, such as a full operating theatre and Intensive Care Unit, advanced simulators and the most modern medical technology.
Chemistry and Engineering Sciences
The University of Twente also offers different short courses in the field of Chemistry and Engineering Sciences, like a course in Extrusion (in Dutch), Rubber technology and aProcess Technology (in Dutch).
Postgraduate Education in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation
The Faculty ITC provides international postgraduate education in the field of geo-information science and earth observation using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). ITC offers a Master of Science (MSc) programme in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation with seven specializations:
- Applied Earth Sciences – Geological Remote Sensing
- Applied Earth Sciences – Natural Hazards, Risks and Engineering
- Land Administration
- Natural Resources Management
- Urban Planning and Management
- Water Resources and Environmental Management
Within the bachelor's programmes and the master's programmes University of Twente offers several programmes of excellence. Students who are talented, entrepeneurial and motivated will be selected. Also students who want to explore somewhat outside their usual discipline and who want to appeal to their creativity somewhat more are invited to apply. The programmes are both High Tech and Human Touch, meaning that they combine technology and social sciences.

At this university we consider study advising and student counselling essential for the quality of our education.
Every programme has appointed dedicated study advisors to support and advise our students. Study advisors can give educational guidance and also more personal guidance. In addition there is also a university wide Student Coaching and Counselling Service which focusses on the development of personal, study related or career skills.
