IGS University of Twente

expert-meeting ‘Vulnerability, Resilience and Disaster Preparedness in Lebanon’

The University of Twente and University of Balamand (Lebanon) organize, in cooperation with The Hague Institute for Global Justice (THIGJ) , an expert-meeting ‘Vulnerability, Resilience and Disaster Preparedness in Lebanon’. This will be held on 23 September at The Hague Institute for Global Justice in the Hague.

The meeting is organized as follow up to a joint research program on ‘Conflict and Environment in North Lebanon’, conducted by the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the University of Balamand in Lebanon. The North of Lebanon is characterized by large pockets of poverty, and by repeated episodes of armed conflict.  At present, it faces a large influx of Syrian refugees, and is confronted with a spillover of the Syrian war. At the same time, it faces great challenges in terms of pressures on the natural environment and risks related to climate change.

During this meeting, we want to discuss the (environmental) vulnerability, resilience and preparedness for natural or man-made disasters; and explore the potential for academic cooperation in these areas. You can register by sending an email to p.vandermolen@utwente.nl  with a cc to f.smith@TheHagueInstitute.org .
