Pushkar S Marathe was born on 16th August, 1988 in Mumbai (India) and attended secondary school in Mumbai. After the conclusion of schooling in 2004, he attended the Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Technology (BVIT), New Mumbai affiliated to Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) and obtained a Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 2007. Thereafter, Pushkar went to the Thadomal Shahani Engineering College (TSEC), Mumbai affiliated to University of Mumbai and obtained a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering (B.E.) in 2010. During B.E. studies he did an internship at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) on the topic ‘Reactive Distillation’ under the guidance of Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahajani.
After obtaining the Bachelors degree, he learned German for the six months (July-Dec 2010) and then worked for the 9 months (Jan-Sept 2011) as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga (ICT) on the research project ‘Novel solvents for CO2 capture from flue gas’ under the guidance of Prof. Dr. P.D. Vaidya. He started his masters studies in 2011 at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany (TUD). During his Masters studies he had an opportunity to work as an Process Intern at the Electrolysis Division of the ThyssenKrupp Uhde GmbH, Dortmund and Bayer Material Sciences, Leverkusen. The M.Sc. was concluded in October 2014 with the thesis ‘Investigations on the effectiveness of latent heat storage by hybrid adsorbent-PCM particles’ under the guidance of Prof. Dr. D.W. Agar.
He is currently working on the NWO Research Project – Fundamentals of Pyrolysis under the guidance of Prof. Dr. S.R.A. Kersten.
