In collaboration with Twente colleagues from the ICE, IMS, CMS and NE groups, the remarkable properties are being investigated of the interface between polar and non-polar oxides. The electronic reconstruction at these interfaces between insulating oxides gives rise to conductivity, large magnetoresistance and even electron-hole bilayers can be created with electron-hole separation distances as close as 1 nm.
In the FOM funded national program INTERPHASE, a Dutch consortium is formed to study novel electronic phases at oxide reconstruced interfaces.
