Project description

My focused research work will focus on the synthesis and design of composite photocatalytic materials capable of absorbing 90% of solar spectrum, while also present abundantly in environment. Combinations of metal oxides (α-Fe2O3, BiVO4) with low bandgap solar absorber materials (FeS2, Cu2S,Cu2O) will be synthesized and incorporated in a functional device able to evolve H2 or hydrocarbons using waste water. The light absorbing materials will be functionalized with novel co-catalysts, including metal alloy nanoparticles, as well as organic complexes based on Co. The targeted device will be nanostructured to minimize overpotentials and maximize catalytic efficiency.
