Successful 11th edition of the European Symposium on Controlled Drug Delivery in Egmond aan Zee
From April 7–9, 2010 the 11th European Symposium on Controlled Drug Delivery was held in hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands (www.escdd.eu). Local organizers of this symposium were the Department of Biomedical Chemistry/ Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials and the MIRA Institute of the University of Twente. With the active support of the Scientific Committee and the Scientific Advisory Board a high level multidisciplinary program was offered where 25 leading pharmaceutical scientists, polymer scientists, bioengineers, biochemists, and tissue engineers from European and non-European countries have given plenary lectures about cutting edge topics in the field of controlled drug and gene delivery. During the poster session 95 researchers have presented and discussed their recent results in this rapidly developing and exciting area. Also the poster presentations were of very high quality and the jury for the poster prizes had a very hard task to select the three award winners (see photo).
Major topics of the symposium were: Novel Concepts in Controlled Drug Delivery; Nucleic Acid Delivery; Targeted Drug Delivery; Image-guided and Triggered Drug Release; Particulate Vaccine Delivery, Ophthalmic Drug Delivery, Bioactive Delivery for Tissue Engineering, and Novel Materials and Techniques for Controlled Release.
The highly qualified lectures and poster presentations, and the interactive participation of all 140 participants from 23 different countries have made this symposium to a great success. The organizers thank them all for their contributions and also our sponsors: DSM, Johnson and Johnson, Traskbritt, FWO, BMM, and TiPharma who helped to make this symposium possible with their generous financial support.
We are already looking forward to meet again at the 12th European Symposium on Controlled Drug Delivery that is planned in April 2012.
