Emanuela Cavatorta was born in Parma (Italy) on January 7th, 1986. In the same city, she attended the Liceo Classico Romagnosi, where she obtained her pre-university education degree. In 2007 she got her bachelor degree in Food Science at the University of Parma, presenting a thesis about ”Allergenic protein extraction from biological matrices”, based on a four months project at the Molecular Biology Department, under the supervision of Prof. Claudia Folli. Two years later she got her bachelor degree in Chemistry with a thesis about ”Ionic liquids and their use as heterogenic catalysts in Knövenagel reaction”, after working five months at the Organic Chemistry Department in Prof. Franca Bigi’s group. During her master course, she spent six months in the Molecular NanoFabrication Group at the University of Twente as an exchange student, working on her master project. In April 2012 she defended her master thesis entitled ”Surface-immobilized Peptide-Nucleic Acids (PNAs) for sensing applications“, under the supervision of Prof Roberto Corradini of the University of Parma.
Since May 2012, she works as a PhD at the Molecular Nanofabrication group under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Pascal Jonkheijm and Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens. The aim of her project is to design and study methods to introduce chemical functional groups to cell surface.
