Elisabetta Fanizza was born on the 10th of January 1978 in Conversano, in the south of Italy. She studied Chemistry at University of Bari, where she obtained her degree in March 2003. During the master thesis she worked on the synthesis of semiconductor oxide colloidal nanocrystals (TiO2 and ZnO) and their application as catalysts in AOP process for wastewater treatments, in the group of Prof. A. Agostiano. In 2003, she started the PhD in Chemistry in the same group with a research project dealing with the low and 2-3D assembly of organic-capped nanocrystals (metal/semiconductor oxide nanocomposite, Oleate-capped TiO2 nanorods, and TOPO-capped fluorescent (CdSe)ZnS nanocrystals) in solution and onto functionalized surface, both solid substrate and colloidal microspheres,. During her work, suitably functionalized nanocrystals have been assembled into hierarchical superstructure by means of novel light induced-procedure and LbL technique. Part of her PhD work has been carried out within the EC-funded project NaPa.
In January 2007 she joined Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens’ group as a postdoctoral fellow and she is now working on the orthogonal assembly of colloidal nanocrystals onto properly functionalized substrate
